Exam Explained

What is IIT JEE?

A clear parent-and-student overview of the exam, its conduct, eligibility and why it matters before choosing a preparation path.

Why this exam matters

JEE Main is important for engineering aspirants because it opens access to premier national engineering institutes and determines eligibility for JEE Advanced. It also builds a strong competitive benchmark for students targeting top technical courses.

Official JEE Main 2026 Information Bulletin

What it is

JEE Main is the national-level engineering entrance examination for B.E./B.Tech admission to NITs, IIITs, CFTIs and other participating institutions. It is also the qualifying gateway for JEE Advanced, which is required for IIT admission.

Conducted by

National Testing Agency (NTA). Seat allocation for participating institutes is handled later through counselling systems such as JoSAA/CSAB, as applicable.

How it is conducted

Paper 1 for B.E./B.Tech is conducted as a Computer Based Test (CBT).

Exam pattern

Paper 1 covers Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry with equal weightage. It includes MCQs and numerical-value questions. The exam duration is 3 hours.

Basic criteria

For JEE Main 2026, there is no age limit. Candidates who passed Class 12/equivalent in 2024 or 2025, or are appearing in 2026, are eligible to appear. Admission to NIT+ system has separate board-performance conditions such as 75% aggregate or top-percentile criteria, with relaxations for certain categories.

Detailed Preparation

What students focus on in IIT JEE Preparation.

Every program is broken into clear academic priorities so students know what they are preparing, how they are being tested and what improvement should look like.

Mathematics problem solving, speed and multi-step logic

Physics concepts, models, graphs and numerical application

Chemistry theory, reactions, formulas and memory-based accuracy

JEE Mains pattern practice with chapter-wise and mixed tests

Preparation System

A practical study cycle from lecture to test review.

The goal is not only to finish syllabus, but to create measurable improvement through practice, testing and correction.

Step 1

Concept-first teaching before advanced problem practice

Step 2

Topic-wise sheets for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics

Step 3

Timed practice to improve question selection and speed

Step 4

Regular tests with score analysis and weak-topic mapping

Step 5

Revision cycles for formulas, reactions and high-weightage chapters

Step 6

Mentoring for exam temperament and study planning
